Laparoscopic AI is a simple, minimally invasive
procedure in which the doe is sedated, the belly is
shaved just forward of the mammary region, the
area cleaned with Iodine, and two trocars /
cannula's are inserted through the belly skin into
the abdomen. One is for the laparoscope (to
visually locate the uterine horns in the abdominal cavity)
and the other is used to enter the abdominal
cavity with the semen and the aspic (needle device).
The semen is then deposited directly into the
lumen of the uterine horns via the needle and the
tools are removed. Occasionally an absorbable
suture is needed, but generally they require only
an antiseptic at the two entry points and they are
allowed to rest undisturbed until the sedation
wears off.
